Royal Navy and Royal Marines families can sometimes face unique pressures. Deployment overseas and separation for long periods of time can take their toll on family life. Talking things through with a professional counsellor can help.

Perhaps you’re not even in a relationship – you might be recently separated, divorced, widowed or have been single for a while.

Whatever your situation, talking to one of Relate’s professional counsellors can help you to work through any issues.

Relate has received a grant from The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) to offer Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel (serving and former) and their families free access to the following counselling services:

  • relationship counselling

  • family counselling

  • young people’s counselling

  • sex therapy

All services are available to serving and former personnel and/or their partners and families. Whether you're married, living together, in a same-sex relationship, separated, divorced or single, we can help.

To find out more, visit the RNRMC page on Relate’s website or call the dedicated telephone line on 01302 380279.

Sad News of the death of Alan Cooper, Trustee.

Earlier this week we received the sad news that one of our trustees had passed away. Alan Cooper was not only the chair of trustees in recent years, but he also worked as a Relate counsellor from 2003 - 2011. He was also a former headmaster and a talented writer, in fact in recent months, Alan took on the role of 'Agony Uncle' for the Stoke Sentinel, producing a weekly column addressing common relationship issues.

Many of you will have also have read his fantastic book, The Relate Experience, which he published last Autumn and which brings together stories of Relate clients, counsellors and volunteers.

Alan will be greatly missed by all those at Relate who had the good fortune of knowing and working with him. Our thoughts are with his wife, Jan, his family and his friends.

"Heartwarming and informative - a real eye-opener".
The Relate Experience

All profits from book sales go to the Relate charity.

A blooming love story: 4th August 2015 | News release

If you’re passing Relate’s Shrewsbury Brides charity shop in Mardol, you’ll notice an unusual invitation. Two mannequins are planning to marry at Shrewsbury Flower Show at the Relate display between the gerberas and the gladioli. The story is that they met on precisely that spot six years ago. Everyone is invited, and those who come along will receive a glass of bubbly and a piece of wedding cake. It’s a fantastic story alright. “We wanted to have a bit of fun and do something different,” says Suzanne Cooper from the charity shop. “Why not create a Relate story? And if you want to know more, have a look at our window, call in at the shop, or come along to the flower show from 12 o’clock on 15th August. We’d love to see you.”

Christina Cuts The Ribbon 7th August 2015 | News Release

Framed by a clutches of balloons, Christina Trevanion of Bargain Hunt fame lifted the scissors and cut the traditional blue ribbon. Relate’s new store, at 8 Scotland Street in Ellesmere, was officially opened. “Ada, a Relate volunteer and I worked hard to get everything ready on time,” said Brenda, manager of the new shop. “It was hard work, but really worth it.”

Christina Trevanion cast her expert eye over the stock. “Early shoppers picked up a plenty of bargains which included a nearly new Radley handbag for a quarter of its marketing price, a quality coffee table and a smart pair of men’s shoes,” she said.

By the end of the day the shop had taken a very encouraging £450, all of which goes to support the work of the Relate charity across the counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire and North Shropshire. “We’re really pleased, it feels like we’re making a real contribution to a very worthwhile charity. And there are still some great bargains on sale,” Brenda added, “including handbags, quality shoes and a range of furniture.” It’s certainly well worth a visit.

Volunteering opportunities are now available, if you have some spare time and would like to contribute to the valuable work that Relate does, please contact the office on 01743 344010.  We currently have opportunities within retail, admin, PR, reception and Training.
